Journalism experience

Credit, January 2010

Paid freelance work at Credit Magazine, an Incisive Media publication for bond investors. Helped conduct the magazine’s ‘Sterling Liquidity Survey’ and wrote two features for the magazine and website.

Sunday Times, September 2009

Helped out reporters on the business desk. Wrote a piece on the growing calls for Northern Rock to be turned back into a building society.

Sunday Telegraph, August 2009

Interviewed 100 young people about their knowledge of the Second World War and wrote a piece for a special issue marking the 70th anniversary of the conflict.

The Times, April 2009

Earned five bylines during a one week placement. Wrote the business round-up in the Saturday Times.

Matlock Mercury, January 2009

Wrote four page leads, including a piece on the life saving work of a support centre for people suffering mental ill health. The paper received letters saying that more people had sought help from the charity after reading about the centre.

Scotland on Sunday, December 2008

Conducted interviews with teachers and politicians for a page three lead on unusual gifts given to teachers by pupils at Christmas.

York Press, April 2007

Four pages of my copy published, including a spread in the Press Business Monthly magazine.

York Vision, April 2006 – January 2008

Features Editor, Deputy Editor and Editor. Contributed to the paper winning Guardian Student Newspaper of the Year 2007. As editor I set up a podcast with University Radio York. I conducted interviews with David Blunkett, Menzies Campbell, Iain Duncan Smith, Oliver Letwin and David Dimbleby.
